Health-Check Guidelines By default, Layer 3 health checking of real server IP addresses is enabled. Likewise, Layer 4 (TCP and UDP) health checking of server ports is enabled by default. Layer 3 health checking can be CPU-intensive. To help reduce unnecessary processing overhead, if you are using Layer 4 or Layer 7 health checking of a real server’s ports, it is recommended to disable Layer 3 health checking of that server’s IP address. For large deployments (1000 or more servers), A10 Networks recommends disabling default Layer 3 health check and using only Layer 4-7 health checks.
